Off They Went

--

The sun collapsed,

And the moon did too,

When I saw my lover’s face at noon.

Sorrow in her eyes

Troubling to see,

Like the eyes of a deer ready to flee.

Her suitcase in hand

Our son’s in the other,

“I must do this to be a good mother.”

The car engine revved,

And off went my loves,

And I was left alone,

With nothing but the doves.
